Cosmetic Fillers

WHAT ARE COSMETIC FILLERS?

They are injectable gels made from naturally-occurring substances, such as collagen, hyaluronic acid or Restylane, which are natural components of the skin to restore volume and fullness to aging skin.

Cosmetic fillers help restore areas such as the lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, neck rings and facial lines (i.e. Nasolabial folds, marionette lines, smokers lines) or to areas caused by acne or surgery.

A cosmetic filler is injected through a small needle into or beneath the dermis to restore the skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds instantly.  Some of the products used for this procedure in our office are Juvederm or Radiesse.

Selphyl is a uniquely natural alternative where Dr. Lourens collects a small amount of blood (1-2 tubes) and then separates and concentrates your platelets and fibrins through the unique Selphyl patented system.  Once this is administered in your skin, growth factors are released to trigger the production of new cells and collagen.  Patients will see visible improvement in skin volume after three weeks.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

The results will vary from person to person, however dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Radiesse typically last 6 to 9 months.

The results with Selphyl may last up to 18 months and in some cases longer.

DOES IT HURT?

Just like any injection, you may experience mild irritation, redness, swelling, bruising, itching, or tenderness at the injection site.  However, this question depends on the person and the area in which they are being treated for.  Treatments around the lips and nose tend to cause the most discomfort.

Prior to performing the treatment, a local anaesthetic may be administered or a topical anaesthetic cream to numb the area.  Ice packs will also greatly reduce the level of discomfort.

Prior to your cosmetic treatment, please discontinue the following medications, foods and supplements.  Click here for Bruising Information

WHAT TO EXPECT?

At your initial consultation, Dr. Lourens will examine your skin and listen to your concerns surrounding the affected area and make an assessment of the level of treatment required based on the depth of wrinkles or fold.

For more information on the products Dr. Lourens uses, please visit their official website.
